Road tunnel: 150MW Fire Test in presence of TUV Rheinland
Road tunnels usually have substantially large fire loads as compared to other fire scenarios. Typical fire loads could be in the range of 50MW to 100MW+.
A 150MW Oil Pool Fire Test was carried out at the test facilities in Shanghai, China. Experts from TÜV Rhineland were invited to witness the test and to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the water mist system.
The test tunnel measures 100m long and was sectioned to replicate a real-life system activation. The aim was to extinguish the oil pool fire under a natural ventilation scenario with a pre-burn time that allowed the temperature to rise up to 1000°C before the water mist system was activated.
Stainless steel open nozzles with a k-factor of 2.0 were used to suppress the fire. System is a dry pipe system with the water being contained up to the section valve.
Cable tunnel: 5MW (HRR) Fire Test in presence of TUV Rheinland
Cable tunnels form a very important part of today’s infrastructure to ensure reliable power supply and data transfer capabilities to major towns and cities. Cables, electrical and electronic equipment installed within cable tunnels is highly flammable. Fires can spread rapidly, reaching temperatures of 1,000DegC + and can have catastrophic consequences.
Hydrocore’s water mist systems rapidly cool the rising temperatures and extinguish the fire using minimal quantity of water. Hydrocore have successfully carried out fire tests for Cable Tunnel Protection having a HRR of 5MW independently witnessed by TUV Rheinland.
Hydrocore holds CCCF (China Certification Centre for Fire Safety Products) certification which allows the export of High Pressure Water Mist systems to China for use in a wide range of applications, including high rise buildings and public transport systems, where we have a number of active installations already.
Hydrocore have gained China Classification Society (CCS) approval for protection of Wind Power Products, used for offshore applications.
