FM APPROVAL: Combustion Turbines and Machinery in Enclosures (up to 260m³)

These areas include enclosures with machinery such as internal combustion engines (excluding engine test cells), oil pumps, oil tanks, fuel filters, generators, transformer vaults, gear boxes, drive shafts, lubrication skids, diesel engine driven generators, and other similar equipment using liquid hydrocarbon fuel and/or hydraulic, heat transfer, and lubrication fluids; enclosures with incidental use or storage of hydrocarbon ignitable liquids (also known as flammable liquids) of not more than two 55 gal (208 L) drums.

Open nozzles manufactured from stainless steel are used in dry-pipe system for the protection of machinery spaces, as part of a total flooding system.
Total Flooding systems use open nozzles (they have no fusible element) spaced throughout a compartment. In this dry pipe system, the water is only contained in the pipework prior to the section valve, until automatically released by a signal from the FDS (Fire Detection System) or manual activation.

The nozzle discharges water at 12.5 lpm at normal working pressure, nozzle k-factor of k1.25. Each micro nozzle has multiple micro nozzles fitted on to the nozzle body and each micro nozzle has an integral filter. Hazards are offered water mist protection for a minimum of twice the longest time to extinguish the test fires, the time to shut down the process equipment or 10 minutes whichever is greater.
All Hydrocore systems are designed, manufactured, and tested to NFPA750.

FM APPROVAL: Local Applications

Open nozzle system ensures quick cooling and suppression. This system can be used in conjunction with a total flooding system. Local application systems use open nozzles (they have no fusible element) spaced above or around an object to be protected.

In this dry pipe system, the water is only contained in the pipework prior to the section valve, until automatically released by a signal from the FDS (Fire Detection System) or manual activation.

The nozzle discharges water at 20 lpm at normal working pressure, nozzle k-factor of k2.0. Each micro nozzle has multiple micro nozzles fitted on to the nozzle body and each micro nozzle has an integral filter.

All Hydrocore systems are designed and manufactured and tested to NFPA750.

FM Approval: Protection of Non Storage Occupancies Hazard Category 1 (HC-1)

Typical occupancies within the scope of FM HC-1 are offices, banks, restaurant seating areas, apartments, hospitals, hotel rooms, schools, universities and so on.

Closed (bulb) nozzles made from stainless steel are used in wet-pipe systems for the protection of Light Hazard Occupancies, an occupancy where the quantity and/or combustibility of contents is low and fires with relatively low rates of heat release are expected.

Nozzle k-factor is k3.5 and the nozzle discharges water at 35 lpm at normal working pressure. Each micro nozzle has multiple micro nozzles fitted on to the nozzle body and each micro nozzle has an integral filter.

Closed nozzles having a heat sensitive frangible bulb which ruptures at a set temperature and offers a targeted response in the zone of fire and are used for the protection of light hazard occupancies.

Section valves used are in a Normally Open ‘NO’ position and the pipework contains water up to the closed nozzles. The system is pressurised up to 10bar during the standby mode and the system pressures increases during a fire activation to more than 100bar.

British Standards BS 8489

With FM approved systems for a variety of applications, Hydrocore systems comply with British Standards for Fixed Fire Protection Systems – Industrial and Commercial Water Mist systems BS 8489.
